![]() Some answers from my experience - actually the feature set for Backup Station is quite good - yes we all want more options but working with what we have does everything you need to do - just not always the "way" you want it to do itġ: Not that i'm aware of - but you could reconfigure the shares to be below a single top level shared folder - not ideal but possibleĢ: yes you can in the external drives part of the external backup in the "to" drop down at the bottom is a create folder iconģ: there has to be limit at some point - set the time to start sufficiently far apart that even a full backup will finish before the second one starts - just time it the first time and then adjust periodically as your data grows - if you only sync the changes to the backup drive it will be much shorter the second and subsequent times.Ĥ: Bad wording/marketing speak - yes you can do it at the command line but.ĥ: i suppose the assumption by qnap was that different drives would have different backups associated with them - the way i have used it. Is there perhaps a way to just directly edit the config file or database table that's behind this UI? Where would I find that? This suggests that there's an alternative Slow Configuration method that perhaps is more capable. You have finished all the steps for Quick Configuration". More sophisticated config method? Having completed this tedious exercise, the software presents a final message "Congrats. I obviously don't want the earlier-finishing job to eject the drive while a later-finishing one is still going.Ĥ. How do I even know which job will finish last? That's important if I want to make use of the "Eject when done" feature. But then how do I guarantee that the second job is not going to start before the first one is finished? (I want the entire backup to be more or less contiguous.) it wouldn't let me create more than 16 pairs in the job. Avoiding multiple jobs and/or multi jobs creating disk contention? Carrying on in the Backup creating pairs. At that point I didn't see any GUI way to do that, so I resorted to SSH and a script. they have to be on the destination drive already. But then discovered that the wizard is unable to actually create destination directories. Create the destination folders? I started down the path of setting up one "pair" for each share. ![]() Did I miss something? I saw some older posts discussing this issue, but figure by now, especially with a new release, this situation must surely have changed?Ģ. All-shares backup? I couldn't discover any way to just tell it to back up the whole set of shares to the external drive. ![]() I'm attempting to set up a job to back up the contents to an external USB 3.0 drive, and I'm running into some challenges with the Backup Station.ġ. Currently the box offers some 23 shares, total of say 2.5T of files. I recently took over a QNAP TS-851, and updated to latest software 4.2.1.
